5 yumyum luplups part 2

A little more than one month later and I’m back with yumyum luplups part 2! If you’ve missed out on part 1 of the tag I owed L B, check it out here.

So, what have I got in store for you this time around?

It was just my luck when a couple of friends came a-visiting from KL. What a lovely excuse to go food-hunting! And since this is Sydney, I couldn’t just feature Chinese food, could I? Not when there are so many other yumyum luplup varieties out there.

Just to recap what the tag was all about:

The rules:
1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you.
Include the state and country you’re in.

Nicole (Sydney, Australia)
velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
L B (San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy)
may (Sydney, Australia)

2. List out your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location.
3. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states)
[..and let them know they’ve been tagged]

#3: Löwenbräu Keller, The Rocks, Sydney
Corner of Playfair & Argyle Streets
The Rocks, Sydney 2000

If you’re a fan of German beer, then you would definitely have heard of this name. Not only do they have great beer, they also have a restaurant out here at The Rocks. It’s almost like Carlsberg having its own eatery! The beer here is excellent, and so are the sausages, pretzels and sauerkraut. The one thing you have to try is their signature pork knuckle dish. We didn’t order it this time around, but I’d definitely go there again soon to dig in!

#4: Sapore By the Fountain, Leichhardt
Shop 33, The Italian Forum
23 Norton Street, Leichhardt 2040

Leichhardt is the place to go for Italian food in Sydney. The one we went to, called Sapore, is inside the Italian Forum — a square with even more Italian restaurants — and is by a fountain, naturally! We shared a (grilled seafood platter, a penne sicilliana and a warm chicken and avocado salad among 5 of us, and it was quite finger lickin’ good! Of course, it’s nowhere as good as Osteria La Cantina dei Porto at Gabicce Mare where I had the best grilled seafood with L B and Stefano…

#5: Harry’s Cafe de Wheels, Woolloomooloo
Cowper Wharf Roadway
Woolloomooloo 2011

This is not quite a restaurant, but more of a stall that started off small and became a permanent feature on wheels along the road. This place serves the meanest, HOTTEST chili dog, ever!! It’s like A&W’s coney dog, except a hundred — nay, a thousand — times much better. It’s not the hotdog that’s special, nor the mince, nor did it look extraordinary (that’s why no photo here). It’s the chili that takes your breath away at first bite. Yum!! Forget about the pies and other varieties they offer, just go straight for the chili dog.

* * *

And now, it gives me great pleasure to finally be able to tag the following people, to continue on this food journey:

ehon - Adelaide, Australia
cp1 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
consuela - Honolulu, Hawaii
ubisetela - Christchurch, New Zealand
samm - Ipoh, Malaysia

Enjoy!

i saw that german place at the rocks but it was either a huge, heavy german meal or a nice quiet italian one - i opted for italian. :)

  27. rinnah  |  May 21st, 2007 4:52 pm

The pasta at Sapore looks yum! And Harry’s Cafe looks so interesting! I’ve never been a fan of hot dogs because M’sia hot dogs aren’t really fantastic. Not even A&W coney dog. :o)

  28. doreen  |  May 21st, 2007 5:22 pm

Ah, Sydney with its melting pot of culture and food! I thought Harry’s was famous for its pies? Especially the mushy pea pie or something?

Btw, you’re famous! :D You were featured in the Sunday Star! Woohoo :)

Wah everything looks so droolicious! And you famous tandoori-naan-eater-featured-in-the-star you! :D congrats not everyone gets that honour!

  34. May  |  May 21st, 2007 10:11 pm

ben - not too late for cupcakes, I see! still can’t load your video, dunno why ler. maybe the cupcakes don’t like me… *sad* LOL!

princess appearl - doesn’t matter that you can’t pronounce the names, what’s more important is that you enjoy the food! the sotong rings were quite yummy, not over-cooked so not rubbery. just the right softness and chewiness. I’d definitely take you to Lowenbrau, we share-share that pork knuckle, ya! *Almost Tuesday HUGS*

Will - and I was wondering whether you were living in Europe or US for it to be Sunday still! got adjust your clock or not?

ubisetela - got tag, got tag! this should be interesting for you. really would like to see what’s good to eat in your neighbourhood. take your time, I took 2 months to do mine!

Kenny Ng - no such thing, unless you count hotdog stalls like this one. anything that’s less than clean would’ve been shut down, and we all know how unclean our KL stalls are! yea, old tag, just took my time with it. *grin*

Kikare - oooh yes, grilled till crispy! especially the skin. and the corner bits. mmmmm. I could almost taste it in my mouth. mmmmm.

moz - you and your boss are men of good taste! Lowenbrau is quite nice if I may say so myself, especially since I’m not too much of a beer drinker. where does your boss live? I want to self-invite for some hearty Italian meals!

misti - my legs almost fell off! LOL! actually my friends did more walking than I did with their “tourist activities”. I just walked to where the food was. *wink*

ehon - very very glorious, very yummy! especially those sausages and beer, and hotdog. Lowenbrau’s beers are unique in the sense that they actually mix different flavours with their beer, like lemon and mango. come on down to Sydney for some, my treat!

Nicole - luckily you didn’t, otherwise I wouldn’t have anywhere else to feature for this tag! we didn’t know the pork knuckle was their signature dish, so we just went for the default sausages and sauerkraut. still very yum. jom let’s go have a chili dog! I’m craving for it now!

Pink Cotton - I just had to finish up the tag, no matter how long it took! heheh! I love how Harry’s Cafe de Wheels is painted on the outside. nice hor, that painting? you attracted to that guy ah? *kekeke*

ah nel - that beer memang ada lemon wan! teh-o ais limau got not as much froth, though…

  35. May  |  May 21st, 2007 10:28 pm

Chen - I gather you’re a fan of German beer? you sama-same wanna eat the sotong rings like Angel, you just might scare the Real Sotong™ away, hahaha! I buy Ah Boy a round of chili dog! I’ll make sure it’s not his relative, ok?

Winn - ya hor, we had German food before we left! I’d forgotten the name, though. Cocka should remember. overpriced. humph. boycott! but this place is good. you come, we go eat at Lowenbrau!

cp - syiok sangat, that platter! but the one I had in Italy is still much better.
Padang Kota is a good food place! especially for the mutton curry and roti canai with telur setengah masak… kkkkk!

Monkticon - want a bite? *offers a sausage*

~TheAngel~ - so the reverse psychology, your tag! waaaa! quite a different angle too. I’d have to think about who was “mean” to me until it was so good… *think think think*

Yvy - yea, the helpings are quite big. we split that sausage platter and a starter among the three of us. very full liao! which Italian did you go to? any good?

rinnah - A&W’s coney dog used to be quite good, a long long time ago when I was a kid. then the quality just went down… down… down… until I think I cook my own hotdog at home also nicer ler!

doreen - yes, bookmark these few places for your meals if you come down to Sydney! I’ll even be your tour guide!

lotsofcravings - HELLO and WELCOME! how nice of you to follow the trail that lead you here. I was in KL for all my life until very recently, and now in Sydney. do check out d’Tandoor if you’re craving for some North Indian food, really yum! thanks for dropping by, hope to see you here again soon.

Pinkelle - they do have their signature mushy pea food, in their pies and as toppings for their hotdogs. didn’t try those though, just went straight for their chili dog. I might try the pea bits another time.
yea, I followed the trail and saw me name there! whee! *blush*

velverse - that sexy, very Gone with the Wind kiss! I love that painting on their stall. so nostalgic. goes with the dogs and the pies somehow.

king’s wife - lethal enough to make you poot hot farts even, LOL! oops!

Paris Beaverbanks - thanks! I didn’t realise that my post was featured until later this afternoon. what a nice surprise! are you gonna go check out that restaurant someday soon?

  36. Nicole  |  May 21st, 2007 11:13 pm
