1-way ticket to the moon

Right-o.

Finally got my flight tickets sorted out and issued this week. Ordinarily, it would’ve been a very simple one-way ticket Down Under (since I don’t know when I’m going to come home next, might as well not do the round trip purchase). However, my new job required me to spend 3 days in Singapore to meet the regional client, which meant I had to do a business trip even before I landed my arse in the Sydney office.

For those who’ve been asking, “When are you leaving exactly?”, I’ve been giving rather complicated answers, having to explain that although I’m leaving for Sydney on 18th February, I start work on the 14th and have to do a trip to Singapore, but will be leaving for Oz from KL. Eh?

Itinerary 1:
MH607 13FEB KUL/SIN 1930 2025
MH614 16FEB SIN/KUL 1805 1900

Itinerary 2:
OS1 18FEB KUL/SYD 0600 1655

And above all that, there’s the “last day on 31st but I won’t be around after that until the 11th” plan thrown in. So although I seem to have a couple of weeks before I join the workforce again, I’m not exactly available for comment.

In short:

  • 31st January: My last day at work. Bye-bye to good folks at my current workplace.
  • 1st - 10th February: I go far, far away. Personal time. Do not disturb.
  • 11th - 13th February: I’ll be home packing like mad for three days. I fly down to Singapore in the evening of the 13th.
  • 14th - 16th February: I officially start work on 14th for my new Co. Three days of induction and meetings with the new client. I fly back to KL on 16th evening.
  • 17th February: My very very last minute packing session, CNY Eve dinner, last round of angpow collections, and goodbye to my family.
  • 18th February: I fly South for Winter in the early morning. Well, almost!

From now till the last fly-away date of 18th February, there’s still a little time for hugs and kisses and a few makan sessions. But hey, don’t worry about not being able to meet up. Don’t feel bad! Seriously and honestly speaking, don’t feel obligated. I might not even have the time to spare, looking at what time I have left.

Ah, but there’s still plenty of time to send me that card! Chinese New Year, Valentine’s, early birthday… So should I be expecting a few deliveries from Mr. Postman in the next few weeks? *wink!*

WOW!! That’s some itinerary, considering that ‘far, far away’ trip snugly wedged in there as well!! HAHA!! When’s the cat gonna be outta bag, eh? Qué? Some rush, huh? Rush here, rush there! Pack this, pack that, DON’T pack this, or that! I’d be wetting myself, with that tight rush, but well, maybe it can’t be that bad..
We should organize a trip Down Under one day too.. Barbies, right? A Night At The Opera.. Sydney Harbor Bay Bugs with a twist of lime! The Blue Mountain! King’s Cross!! Aye, mate!

  4. Pamela  |  January 20th, 2007 9:39 pm

Hi again…Thanks for your reply to my earlier comment. You are just being humble. Your blog is simply great to me…it’s about simplicity of life with its high and low tide. Totally unpretentious. Again who am I to judge when I don’t even maintain a blog….maybe someday.

The countdown has certainly started. I will be going back to Penang for my CNY and that’s also when you are leaving…a tad emo though. I would love to have your email address if you are not reluctant about the idea….please do drop me a mail ya & you have a good day!

Couldn’t help but notice that you’ll be beginning on new fronts on rather ‘auspicious’ dates: new job on 14th (Valentine’s) and flying off to Sydney on 18th (1st day of CNY). :o)

take care and have a safe journey. =)

  19. May  |  January 21st, 2007 12:05 pm

Monkticon - 5 HUGS… got makan, got makan! next Friday night can anot? meet up togeder-geder with a few other bloggers. I drop you an email, ok? with address too… if I remember…

L B - 3 HUGS… rush me everywhere! actually, I don’t really feel the rush now, but I’m sure I’d be running around like a headless chicken trying to stick to my schedule. sei lor, I haven’t even started to pack much!
of course you should come Down Under! stay a whole month, even. lotsa Barbies (and dolls), lotsa beer, lotsa everything! and go down under there too… *ahem*
when is that iPort gonna be ready? instant travel! that ‘far far away’ trip could be much longer than just those few days then. *meow*

Pamela - 1 HUG… hi again and WELCOME to T H E H U G H U G C L U B™! your comment just clinched you a place on my sidebar list. ain’t that great? and when you do start a blog (which I hope you would, you sound like a really interesting person to read about), I could link it up here too. whee!!
ah, the annual balik kampung trip to your hometown, yes? I’ve never had to do that before — born and raised in KL/PJ my whole life — but now that I’m going to be elsewhere, I’ll definitely experience this for the first time the next I return home. really! imagine that, only now at this age do I get to balik kampung for real.
(dropped you a note… keep in touch! hugs!)

  20. May  |  January 21st, 2007 12:18 pm

sin ling - awwww… awwwww!! you’re such a sweetie to say that. strangely, even though I’ve not met many of my readers including yourself, I do feel like I’m “moving” as well from Blogsphere… to another sphere? it’s weird! no first day of CNY for me, but at least I get to spend Eve here.

yen chiew - it’s the trip to the airports and the waiting time and sitting for long hours and not being able to lie down comfortably and the trips back from the airport that are sooooo not looked forward to… *sigh* I’m not quite gone from KL yet, so don’t miss me so much yet either, ok? heheh. a few more weeks!

rinnah - hello again! come, have a seat… *pulls up a chair*
uh-huh, I just realised that too, when I booked my flight tickets. I think I’d definitely remember my start date for this job, hahaha! what a way to spend Valentine’s this year. and CNY on the plane. I wonder if they’ll hand out fortune cookies and angpows on the flight?

ben - hor!! and I still haven’t io ka ch’ng with you yet. faster io your way here, faster!

Pink Cotton - almost time, almost. not just quite time yet. I’m procrastinating on my packing, hahaha! a bit lazy this weekend, but I’d better get to it over the next few days…

Jo - yes, of course we can have that drink! are you free next Friday night? a bit of a gathering, it’d be great if you could join us. I’ll drop you a note on this soon.

Will - squeezing as much as I can liao, until my Mom won’t be seeing me almost every night, hahaha! fatt hau! you join us next Friday too, ok?

  21. May  |  January 21st, 2007 12:28 pm

moz - wooo, you said the magic words. DIMSUM!! I want I want! so when are you gonna take me yumcha? next weekend? I want har kau!

misti - I want to take all your klangklangs with me! and everything I could cramp into that one luggage. sucks that it’s a 20kg limit, otherwise I would’ve packed everyone in there too. a 200kg limit is what I need.
p.s. wanna meet up when I’m in Singapore for the 3 days? be my Valentine! and carcar’s!! we celebrate togeder-geder, want?

SA - I’ve been banging my thighs on my bed’s corner more than my head, LOL! no goodbye yet, not just yet. I’m still here. and I’m still “here”, in Blogsphere. save that goodbye till 18th Feb, ok…

zeroimpact - faster than a speeding bullet! I think time’s gonna pass even faster after this weekend, though logically they’re all 24-hour days. hmmm… did someone just press on the fast-forward button?!

princess a - *waaaiiiilllllllssssss* *brings out the kleenex*

CrazyGrr| - excited, yes! sad… well, it’s more of heavy-heartedness. a lot of things I wish I could take with me. but the excitement is slowly outweighing all that. you’re always welcome to visit Down Under, yea?

moopig - I’m already feeling sleepy from lack of snooze after a late-night karaoke session, LOL!! I should practice sleeping and waking up 3 hours earlier too, I think I might be slightly jet-lagged when I get there. wouldn’t be a good 1st impression if I kept yawning on my first day at work.
and who knows, maybe I’ll meet you there in London instead… *wink!*

  22. wat de  |  January 21st, 2007 1:11 pm

u r reeeeally ciaoing huh? *tears rolling + bambi eyes* (this is so angelestrix…wtf!lol!) sigh! also the start of some real chow sessions huh? lol. austrian is a cool european aline to fly. highly recommended.

  23. velverse  |  January 21st, 2007 5:31 pm

wah to the moon and back :(

You won’t be around for valentine’s? Then I mah no date lor?

  24. Selby  |  January 21st, 2007 5:39 pm

Whoooaaaaaa… I got so excited when I read this post!!! Really!!! It’s just so fun.. I wish I could be in your shoes right now!!! Seriously!!!

Hey… actually, you could stop over in Jakarta lor.. it’s in the middle on the way you to Sydney, hehehe…

  25. rinnah  |  January 21st, 2007 7:51 pm

It’s definitely a different sort of Valentine! I remember last year on Valentine’s Day I was stuck in college for the start of the semester (coincedentally or not, it was on 14th Feb).

If there are fortune cookies onboard the plane, I think yours would read ‘New horizons are approaching’ or something along those lines… :o)

  26. Monkticon  |  January 21st, 2007 9:40 pm

    next friday….not very sure…*sighs*…i will try…

  27. May  |  January 21st, 2007 11:04 pm

wat de - no ler, that one where got like angelestrix leh? hers a lot of liuliu and tiutiu wan! makan sessions have been year long, for every reason thinkable, haha! I’ve been on Lauda Air before, this would be the second time I fly with them. quite different from the usual Asian airlines, somehow. must be the red caps!

velverse - no wor, I won’t be around for qing yan jit. you come down to Singapore lah, we all be Valentine togeder-geder over there! not coming back from the moon yet wor, at least not anytime soon… *sigh*

Selby - I wish I could, but Lauda Air flies non-stop to Sydney! no stopovers, unfortunately. hey, you now have a reason to come Down Under, yea? my soon-to-have doors are always open to friends who come a-calling!

rinnah - ahhh, but every day could be Valentine’s if we make it to be, yea? *wink!* just need a few scented candles to set the mood, some soft music playing in the background, a nice sofa to snuggle up on with that special someone… oooh! and I think you’d make a great fortune cookie writer! side income, perhaps?

Monkticon - no sure? s’ok, try your best. don’t beat yourself over it if you can’t, ya. there’ll always be another time. smile!

  28. king's wife  |  January 21st, 2007 11:28 pm

Time to say bye-bye soon. :(
Hope all your preparations are all smooth sailing.

    Catch you around :)

  30. Jane Sunshine  |  January 22nd, 2007 5:07 am

Sounds hecticmadcrazy. But I suppose there’s also the adrenaline rush of adventure. Enjoy girl and wishing you all the best as you undertake this momentous journey

  31. May  |  January 22nd, 2007 8:15 am

king’s wife - yes, makan is surely on the agenda! even if not a big feast. no more pork knuckles or RM75-per-plate pasta. some la mien will do, and dimsum…
    Con te partirò
    Paesi che non ho mai
    veduto e vissuto con te,
    adesso sì li vivrò.

gbyeow - sure thing. and maybe catch you Down Under, yea?

Jane Sunshine - I feel rushed looking at the schedule, but right now I don’t quite feel the rush just yet. but I’m sure when it hits, it hits. adrenaline rush for sure, by that time!

  32. carcar  |  January 22nd, 2007 8:27 am

  37. ubisetela  |  January 22nd, 2007 3:55 pm

the title makes you the first Msian astronaut! :D

  38. Samm  |  January 22nd, 2007 3:55 pm

It’s good to know u’re well planned for all that moving. Big girl hoh. All the more reason to go for that holiday now. Next time, i see u down under, hah

  39. May  |  January 22nd, 2007 8:49 pm

ubisetela - now, if only I were really going to the moon. that would be some adventure, eh? *grin*

samm - hai lor. tai kor lui jor lor. actually I didn’t quite plan it out too well… I should’ve booked my flights earlier in the month than just last week, ‘cos most of the good direct flights were all full. gah! had to pick the slightly odd-hour leftovers. oh well, can’t be too choosey, at least I still have a flight plan.

  40. misti  |  January 22nd, 2007 9:12 pm

actually i have same problem as Winn. very hard to log into your blog and LB’s. even my own blog downloading your avatar at the comments section take ages. so i resorted to being anonymous and posting. much easier.

  41. Chen  |  January 22nd, 2007 10:44 pm

    So fast time flies….
nice meeting up with u last weekend
we will meet up again soon…
might be in Oz, might be in KL, might be in….

  42. py  |  January 22nd, 2007 11:26 pm

Hi May, you are in Singapore from 14-16 Feb and I am sorry that I may have to miss you then in Singapore. Have long hours of work and rehearsals on those days.

Hope you would have a chance to tour some lovely sights of Singapore.

  43. 凯西  |  January 22nd, 2007 11:29 pm

Ackk!! 0600 flight?! Have to leave for airport in the middle of the night?? 7 hour flight? If I fly from where I’ll be going, that’ll be a 14 hour flight!! Pengsan!! Paris is nearer… *big grin*

How much ‘time’ do you have to serve before you are free??

  44. May  |  January 22nd, 2007 11:48 pm

misti - really? hmmm, that’s really strange. I’ve not had any problems so far with access to my own and LB’s blog, with the exception of downtime once in a blue moon. ok, I’ll make it a point to sign in as “other” for yours, then no avatar. it actually loads from the same site server that hosts my blog. I wonder if there’s something about the lines between KL and Singapore?

Chen - …and there goes time again! ever ticking, ever flying. too bad we can’t pause and enjoy the great moments a little while longer, eh? thanks for making it all the way down to KL for the weekend! wonderful having you around. where else can we meet up ah? Penang? Paris? Antartica?

py - no worries! you take care of your health too, amidst all that practicing, yea? best of luck in your rehearsals and performances.

凯西 - in the middle of the morning, more like. no need to sleep after reunion dinner, just keep packing, collecting them angpows, and then zzzz on the plane! it’s about 7-8 hours to Sydney, which means… *counts…* maybe about 4 movies?
I have to “do” 2 years before I can apply for a Returning Resident Visa after this 5-year multiple one expires in September. another weird condition and calculation, another long story… maybe a trip back before that expires, who’s to know?

  45. Simple American  |  January 23rd, 2007 1:32 am

You want my hockey pants? They have thigh pads and waist pads. Save some wear and tear on your hips.

SA - those might help, though I’m wondering if I’d have trouble keeping them up on me. do you have any suspenders to spare as well?

JL - speaking of lucky ducky, did you know I ter-left my wallet in Red Box karaoke that night?! and I received 3 phonecalls telling me about my dropped wallet! I had to collect it the next morning. careless me for leaving it behind, lucky me for getting it back again. *phew*

sengkor - one more movie mah, remember? sure got time wan. so what are we watching again ah?

Liucas - I miss liu too!! how cum you in Penang leh? come back to KL, faster… I wanna muak and hugs you tight-tight! *dreams of fluffy white Liucas running into my arms*

Hijackqueen - no worries, of course you can visit me Down Under. no need to wait for Air Asia, can row sampan halfway for now! I’m not sure if I’ll flood the whole of KL by the time I really need to leave…

Will - friday, somewhere in KL near BB Plaza, with the “usual gang”, eat chicken wings! you got time to join us anot?

  57. Will  |  January 24th, 2007 12:16 am

flyday ah? should be ok… hmm… maybe can carpool with Angel if she is going too

  58. Simple American  |  January 24th, 2007 2:13 am

Of course. That is the only way they stay up on me too. haha

Just be warned they are a little stinkey. ;)

  59. zara's mama  |  January 25th, 2007 5:44 pm

Oh boy.. all these are happening way too soon.. but I’m out of confinement this w/end, if there’s any get-together or farewell, don’t forget about me huh? But this time, I’ll have to bring 2 noisy kids.

  60. May  |  January 26th, 2007 4:47 pm

Will - dun be late mmmkay!! otherwise, you pay or our siew kai yik!

SA - *tries not to wrinkle nose* I’ll make sure I give them a good wash before and after.

zara’s mama - ooooh, that’s quick! how time flies, already well enough to be out of confinement. I don’t know if there’s any more little get-togethers, maybe on that 3-day gap between my travels. no guarantees though. and of course you can bring your two lovely girls!
just in case I won’t be able to see you before I go… *BIG HUGS* I’ll miss you!

  61. _butt  |  January 28th, 2007 2:17 pm

time sure flies.. we may be far apart soon but we’re still under the same blue skies! yeah, won’t feel bad :)

  62. ChristinE  |  January 29th, 2007 10:23 am

i’ll definitely be visiting u babe.. wait up yea! *winkswinksmuacksmuackskisskiss*

  63. May  |  January 31st, 2007 1:19 am

_butt - that reminds me of a song by the Scorpions, “Under the Same Sun”. and that cute song from the movie An American Tail…
and even though I know how very far apart we are
it helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star
and when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby
it helps to think we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky…

ChristinE - waiting, waiting! faster book your ticket in the MAS Travel Fair! *kisskisskhughug*
