fee-five-fo-fummm facts

I got hijacked by Hijack Queen (and subsequently Just Me) for this tag! The first for the new year, and I have a feeling that it won’t be the last. Despite it being just 5 things, I’m wrecking my brain pretty hard on this, since I’ve done similar memes prior. Sei lor, what else could I tell you that you don’t already know? Hmmm… how about a few things about my past:

*strolls down memory lane once more*

Five Things You Didn’t Know About Me

When I was 8 years old, I was picked to represent school for an art contest, but never made it ‘cos I fell ill. Overly excited, maybe.

As a kid, I used to write notes to my Mom to ask for things if I was too afraid to ask her directly. I’d scribble something like, “Can I have a Strawberry Shortcake doll?” on a scrap of paper, give it to her, wait for her to write her reply, then take the note back to my room to read the answer (usually it’s a “No” for those sort of questions).

I had my ears pierced when I was 11 as reward for doing well in my exams. My second piercing was done on April Fool’s Day, 1992 even though Mom forbade me to do it. My hair did a good job of hiding it for a couple of days, but she found out eventually. I got an “earful” after that.

For years, I’ve always wanted a tattoo but didn’t know what kind of motif to have permanently etched on my skin. When I finally settled for my name in Chinese character, 美, I couldn’t decide where to put the tattoo, so it’s still wishful thinking. Besides, I’m too chicken shit to really get it done.

Lil’ Miss May was a nickname given to me by an old friend of mine, many years ago when we were in college. We go back as far as Primary School, since Standard 2. He’d say it with a pretty convincing Southern drawl; he’s always had talent with accents. He hardly ever calls me that now. At least I have him to thank for giving me this nickname which became my online identity.

same here for the tattoo…but can feel the desire burning quite the hot lately.

i got my ear pierced when i was in my second year in uni and the mass-comm gal whom i admire saw me once i got down from the bus and i was trembling…..shy mar.

  5. moz  |  January 12th, 2007 2:25 am

Well … tattos? I guess some people like it and some don’t.

My say here is to wait until you’re really sure you want it, and you’re going to be really be able to live with permanent markings on your skin.

  6. LB  |  January 12th, 2007 2:29 am

Hahaha, I didn’t think you had a tattoo as I was reading about it.. I checked!! *grin*

  7. moopig  |  January 12th, 2007 2:34 am

hehehe… writing note to mummy. I never did that but I think that’s so cute. It’s such a pain to get ‘No’ as a reply aye?

That’s why I don’t like to ask for this and that. Because I never liked a negative answer. When I showed my sour face, mum said “if you don’t like to hear no then just go ahead and do it yourself lah”. you don’t want to know what the consequences were. teeheehee

  8. princess a  |  January 12th, 2007 2:42 am

Little Miss May (sed with authentic Texas accent, which is a southern derivative of coz)
It just sounds nice ya know.

Little kids piccies are so cute. What kind of fishies did ya see?

    Tattoo! I sked too.

  10. Will  |  January 12th, 2007 6:04 am

LOL… mimaland… that was like so ancient… I’ve been there once I think

  11. Chen  |  January 12th, 2007 6:35 am

I’ve been to mimaland too..but tat was in the early 90’s :)
come to think about it, I seldom ask my mum for things
err.. looking at the years, how come your second ear piercing was done earlier than your first ear piercing? I’m blur liao… :P

  12. bkworm  |  January 12th, 2007 7:34 am

OMG!! Mimaland! That was like eons ago. Is it still there?

  13. sengkor  |  January 12th, 2007 9:08 am

i remember i kicked a football in mimaland and it went downhill into a huge longkang with running water. and we never retrieved that ball. and that ball’s not even mine.

  14. velverse  |  January 12th, 2007 11:08 am

wah mimaland… i long long time no hear this word. I dun think I have been to mimaland lor… sigh~

  15. king's wife  |  January 12th, 2007 11:24 am

Oh yeah…Mimaland. I took many shots there too. Err..where was it located actually? **blur**

  16. misti  |  January 12th, 2007 11:54 am

nice to think of old times, and to be able to share those moments. you know, the one sad thing in life is when you have no one to share your good news with. or sad news for that matter. or important news. you get the drift lah. i am being too sentimental now. i mean, seeing old vagabonds on the road, who do they tell their ‘news’ to? so, i am glad we can share each other’s news here and be happy for one another or sad, when another is down. it is a blessing to have good friends. :)

  17. Hijackqueen  |  January 12th, 2007 12:10 pm

Nowadays ppl very ‘heng’ to put a tatoo near above their butt crack. I love those too especially when you bend down. Very sexy also. Do it! Do it!

  18. May  |  January 12th, 2007 2:38 pm

zeroimpact - 5 HUGS… glad to see you on top again! sorry, no revealing where that tattoo was supposed to be. or is going to be. where else would it be? I think the nickname “zeroimpact” is now stuck on you!

Monkticon - 3 HUGS… wait, what’s really cute? the photos? my post? eh?

queettiques - 1 HUG… what’s not so not you, dah-ling? the hugging and kissing? but of course you must!! how can not have them hugs & kisses? proximity is but a click away in the virtual world. ain’t that a beauty?
oooh, so what’s your tattoo motif gonna be? something Thai? structural? a house? LOL! at least you have a pierced year. so bergaya, so yau yeng… I like.

moz - which is why I’ve been stalling and stalling, can’t decide where I want it permanently etched on my skin. then again, there’s always tattoo removals via laser surgery if I don’t want it anymore. just a total waste of money for getting it done in the first place, of course.

L B - ah yes, you would have too, wouldn’t you? haha! you sure you checked behind the bush? *cheeky grin back*

moopig - sigh, always a little girl’s dream shattered when I can’t get that doll I so wanted! but Mom’s right not to indulge me in those things, I suppose. I don’t own a single Barbie doll to this day. I’ve learnt the delicate balance of “telling” her what I’m going to do or what my plans are, vs. “asking” her if she approved of anything these days. either way, it’s gonna swing my way… kekeke!

  19. May  |  January 12th, 2007 2:44 pm

princess a - where? where?! *peeks*
last time I so fatt hau, I envied little girls who had pierced ears! I used to “borrow” my Mom’s clip-on earrings and parade in front of the mirror, LOLOL!! so so sooooo long ago hor, Mimaland… I can’t even remember what it’s like except in photos.
*runs to princess a with arms wide open*
    *gets ready to peluk kuat-kuat*
    *sqqquuueeeeezzzzzze*

SA - I bet you’d have said it perfectly in your Texan accent! maybe someday I’ll hear it for real, eh? I can’t remember what fishies there were. maybe the water was too murky. could’ve been a golden koi with a tattooed samurai on its back.

Will - aiyo, don’t say lah, ancient!! makes me feel… ancient too… hahahahaha! gone are those days liao. I might’ve been at least 3 times, I can’t remember myself.

Chen - early 90’s still got meh? that was back in the 80’s for me. sorry, my calculation of years salah already, I’ve corrected it. should’ve been 1992. must’ve eaten too many drunken Sotongs with tiu-na fish.

bkworm - I think it closed down many many years ago. can’t remember when exactly. I don’t even remember where “there” is, come to think of it. was it even in Selangor? or Pahang? or Perak? or right here in KL?

sengkor - you notti boy, hahahahaha! the ball would’ve been washed away liao. probably eaten by some mutant fish in some pond. I don’t know why I thought of the pond thingy, but it sounded right to say it.

  20. May  |  January 12th, 2007 2:50 pm

velverse - I don’t think you missed out on anything much. that was probably THE place to go when we were kids, but I think theme parks now are so much better! even crappy Sunway Lagoon is better, come to think of it. what to do, lack of entertainment last time mah…

king’s wife - I have no idea! my parents would probably remember if I asked them. it felt like it was far far away for me when I was little, cos it took quite awhile to drive there. show photos, show photos!

    misti - *nods understandingly* *hugs*
I know what you mean. I sometimes have moments where I have things to tell, but no one appropriate to tell them to. so I turn to my dog. I guess everyone needs an outlet to share, it’s only natural. I wonder if the vagabonds tell other vagabonds of their news? or to anyone who would talk to them. poor souls… *sigh*

Hijackqueen - I did think about that sweet and tender spot just above my butt crack. but then again, I wanted to tattoo my name, so it would be too odd for it to look like I’m farting my name out! ROTFL!! I might consider my right hip, or somewhere not so errr… fashionably fartish. *wink*

  21. ben  |  January 12th, 2007 3:08 pm

  28. Cocka Doodle  |  January 13th, 2007 12:04 am

The last time I checked, still no tattoo but I saw the grafitti; “LB was here”. Damn! LOL

  29. May  |  January 13th, 2007 12:24 am

ben - oh ho ho!! you have the best-est recommendation for a sweet spot. you arhhhh… since you can io io io so well, does it mean you have many tattoos on your ka ch’ng? wakakaka!

Jo - ah, but that depends on who it should be visible to! sometimes it’s quite sexy if it’s meant for “private viewing” only, know what I mean? *nudge nudge*

Monkticon - I think anyone’s kiddy photos would be cute. I’m just wondering how 80’s could my photos get, probably because of the clothes we wore. flipping old photos is so nostalgic sometimes, hor? go on, dig up those old photos of yours, you know you wanna!

JL - huarrrrr, looks so canggih, so komplikasi, so yau yeng. I like! you tattoo left bum, I tattoo right bum, mmmkay?

Emily - sure, no worries! didn’t know my blog’s been giving you trouble, eek! is it the music player, I wonder?

yen chiew - ah, but people do so love a little hamsupness every now and then! LOL!! especially when a little hair is revealed in the right spots. I’m afraid all the hair I have to show are the ones on my head!

_butt - ya lor, it’s the thought of listening to the machine whirring away and the pain that goes along with it… almost like visiting the dentist… *gulp!*

Cocka Doodle - lei yau chee geh? you peeked where you’re not supposed to, izit?! ROTFLMBO!

  30. misti  |  January 13th, 2007 12:57 am

i went to find a vagabond and bought some ko-yok (plaster for aches) off him just now. lol! he wanted to make small talk but i tried to look ’serious’ though my heart was aching out for him. ko-yok $1 a pack, 3 packs for $2 he said. you know, it was past midnight and raining pretty heavily. who will buy ko-yok at that time? *sigh* he was talking to another ’similar looking vagabond’ earlier. i think he lost his dog. i saw an old faithful dog with him couple of months back. they slept and ate together. *sigh again* sorry for disjointed thoughts.

  31. ah nel  |  January 13th, 2007 4:43 am

put it at the back of ur neck or under ur belly the words…dont wory as not pain… ;)

  32. just me  |  January 13th, 2007 6:32 am

  33. Yvy  |  January 13th, 2007 7:34 am

  34. Pink Cotton  |  January 13th, 2007 9:07 am

hahahaa what a cute little gal you were…
    passing notes to your mom…

u kno wat i used to do if i wanted something so badly?i would check my moms purse before we go out to see whether she has enough money in her purse.if she has enough then i would ask her for the thing i wanted…haha

of cos i didnt know the existence of credit cards la that time ‘x’

  35. ChristinE  |  January 13th, 2007 9:36 am

ahh.. mimaland.. such an ‘in’ place to be back then =D

  36. ChristinE  |  January 13th, 2007 9:37 am

  37. Monkticon  |  January 13th, 2007 10:04 am

haha…yah..will find some ol skool photos of mine soon…very very nostalgic.

  38. kat  |  January 13th, 2007 10:26 am

Hahaha… I also have an almost exact same picture, with that kind of pose, dress, shoes and socks!! Except it was me and my 2 sisters, and it was taken at the zoo.

  39. Jo  |  January 13th, 2007 1:18 pm

seems like someone in a naughty mood.. arent u? ;)

  40. zara's mama  |  January 13th, 2007 2:43 pm

Wow.. writing notes to mummy? That’s so cool and so ‘communitative’.. I never did that.. :(

  41. Kenny Ng  |  January 13th, 2007 6:51 pm

Ohhh… now I know more about you… I also wish to do a tattoo, but my mom not allow me.

  42. Selby  |  January 13th, 2007 7:23 pm

Oh… you look so cute together with your brothers :)

The way how to ask things from your mom is also cute, hehehe…

  43. May  |  January 13th, 2007 10:51 pm

misti - *sniff* *awwww* that vagabond ko-yok story is so sad… I do hope he has a warm and dry place to stay every night. and the dog too… did it ever turn up again to look for his vagabond companion? I hope they both are ok… *sigh* *no words* *hugs*

ah nel - at the back of the neck? hmmm… that would look rather tribal, no? or like a scar. I don’t think I’ll put it under my belly, if I go fat then my tattoo “expand”, then how leh? hahahaha! it’ll look so out of shape!

just me - yea, I was thinking just that, actually. if i ever, ever work up the courage to ever, ever get it done, I’d do it there. or just get it drawn with a permanent marker every 2 weeks or so.

Yvy - that’s something I’ve always wanted to do but never got around doing it! should I? should I? should I?

Pink Cotton - you so smart! LOL! know how to check your Mom’s wallet summore! I only do the note thingy if I’m afraid of asking her for something I know my chances are virtually close to zero. didn’t like hearing a stern “no” from her then, so I thought reading it would be better than her saying it!

ChristinE - you got go Mimaland ka? I’m sure it would’ve looked quite different from “my days” liao. no no on the butt, I dowan to sit on myself! haha!

  44. May  |  January 13th, 2007 11:00 pm

Monkticon - yay! I like looking at old photos. I was just flipping through my baby photos earlier today, so nostalgic, seeing all those old clothing and hairstyle and all. those were the days…

kat - I think hor, us 70’s children have one kind of look wan! definitely the “in” look for that era. short fringe, square haircut, high socks, frocks!

Jo - naughty mood? *looks around…* me? I tried to be a rebel but failed miserably. at least I still managed to pull off a few “naughty” stunts, eh?

zara’s mama - that’s because I was too chicken shit to ask her in person! I’d rather not see the results instantaneously mah. wanted to delay the inevitable “bad news” till later abit, heheh!

Kenny Ng - I think my Mom would freak out if I got a tattoo as well. then again, I haven’t exactly been the golden child either, teehee… maybe at a spot where she wouldn’t see, for the next… I dunno, 20 years or so? *grin*

Selby - funny how that I never thought I would do that as a child, the writing notes thing. I just suddenly remembered that I did it a few times, I’m actually quite amused at myself right now!

  45. zeroimpact  |  January 14th, 2007 3:00 am

Can I search, can I search
    Heh heh heh
    zeroimpact is my name
No impact is what I am

  47. May  |  January 15th, 2007 12:34 am

zeroimpact - I just did a Google on your nick, and your blog came out tops! how ’bout that, eh? fehmes liao!

kyh - now, there’s a nice thought. to finish things which we started but never saw the end of. like finally taking my black belt grading in taekwondo. or finish those guitar lessons. hmmm… not too late to do them now, no? well, some things, at least! *grin*

  48. carcar  |  January 16th, 2007 1:02 pm

  50. May  |  January 18th, 2007 12:16 pm

carcar - I looked in the Spam bin, you weren’t there. misti is having the same problem of disappearing comments. I wonder if it’s the SGP-KL line? hahahaha!
still haven’t helped me figure out where to put my name ka? hmmm… was thinking of my right hip, but if I grow fat, that ‘美’ is gonna stretch big and wide… LOL!

  51. Emily  |  January 19th, 2007 6:01 pm

I had my ear pierced at 7, but I developed an allergy and had to have the earrings removed. After that I refused to wear earrings anymore because I like to sleep on my side and they get in the way. I hate how hard it is to get magnetic earrings as opposed to the “normal” pierced types :-/

  52. Emily  |  January 20th, 2007 11:10 am

No no no, it’s the Apple’s site. It’s been crashing FireFox in the CC computer lately.

  53. May  |  January 22nd, 2007 8:21 am

Emily - ooooh, I’ve seen those badly infected ears! the whole earring is kinda enveloped in flesh… ewww ewww ewwwwwwww! *squirms* I wonder what happened to those girls with the infected ears.
I don’t wear them to sleep either, though I used to. the poking irritates me now. and yea, magnetic earrings are quite hard to find. they’re still better than those old-fashioned clip-ons, where you can see the ugly hinge, heheh!
    Apple still crashing your browser?

  54. zham  |  March 19th, 2007 7:13 pm
