Archive for December, 2007

happy two double-oh eight!

Ahhh, time passes so fast when you’re having fun, doesn’t it? In one long flash, 2007 is gone, and 2008 is just around the corner. Everyone’s doing a last post for the year, and I just had to jump on the bandwagon too!

I guess the biggest and most prominent thing that happened to me this year was my major haul-ass migration from KL to Sydney. And after almost a year here, I sometimes still find it a little surreal — am I really here? Or is this all just one, very long dream?

And so, not to make this short post any longer and to sum my year in a few (hundred) words, here’s an ode to 2007 sung in the tune of the 12 Days of Christmas.

* * *

In the 12 months of 2007, my fortunes gave to me…

12 movies at the cinemas
- and lots more flicks on DVDs, downloads and on-flight entertainment

scene

11 months in Sydney
- my biggest move… has it been that long already?

10 visitors from abroad
- four family members, two ol’ friends, moz, laundryamah & Mr. D, and ehon

9 months in my own place
- I love where I’m staying now, except for the roaches

toys

8 cute new housemates
- kiki, owl, froggy, Mr Happy, Little Miss Sunshine, sheep-o and two Jap dolls

7 trips to Sydney’s IKEA
- if it weren’t so far, I’d have done more

6 uses of the oven
- muffins, gingerbread cookies, shortbread, and three rounds of siew pai kuat

toys

5 “gold” L-plates
- I got my learner licence, hooray! I can drive in Oz!

4 office “parties”
- a trip to Hunter Valley, two picnics and Christmas cocktails

bamboo

3 lucky bamboo shoots
- I hope these will last for a long time and not die on me

2 sexcapades
- holidays to Italy and back home to KL… I miss you lots

And a promotion for working my *toot* off!
- with a wee more $ in the bank, too

pandang balik 5 kari ayam

After looking at LB’s pot of yummy curry chicken, I suddenly had a craving of a bowlful myself. Nothing like sinking your teeth into tender chicken meat, oozing with curry-ness!

I’ve been pretty lucky so far in being able to find lots of Malaysian food ingredients here in Sydney’s Asian grocery stores. Normally I’d go to Chinatown and pick up some local yummies there, but today I decided to investigate this other shop up in Chatswood.

groceries

Ahhhh, look at what I found! W O O T ! What a loot! I bagged myself 1 whole packful of Aik Cheong instant teh tarik sachets, 4 packets of Brahim’s readymade sauces (2 kuah kari ayam, 1 kuah sambal tumis, 1 kuah asam pedas), 1 bottle of Lingham’s chili sauce, 2 original Maggi Mee imports — not the ones made for Aussies, those taste terrible — in kari and asam laksa each, 3 packs of Eu Yan Sang’s herbal soup mixes, and 2 packs of Miaow Miaow prawn crackers. I’m feeling so at home now with my stash… *sigh*

If only I had some roti canai with me…

’twas the day before xmas,

…and all through the place
The radio was playing some carols with grace

The clock struck two thirty, a buzz at the door
The IKEA Santas came up floor by floor

Three large packages they had with my name on their sides
“Hooray! hooray! now, where are the guides?”

I hammered and kicked and thumped at my loot
And three hours later (plus a half injured foot)

Behold, the EXPEDIT and the IKEA PS!
Oh, and a pretty swivel chair for a very pretty lass… *ahem*

Mr. Postman came on time today, too
With a card in hand… wait, make that two

From may yee and angel, my dear friends afar
Plus one yesterday from giddy tigress, you are a star!

And so comes Christmas, we should all rejoice
Singing merrily away till I lose my voice

I wish you were here with me tonight
happy together, not a trouble in sight

Big hugs, wet kisses and lots of love too
to you, and you, and you, and you.

Merry Christmas, Darling

i’ll wear a blue, blue xmas…

…dress, that is.

The Company is having its Christmas dinner this Thursday, woo-hoo! And being the ultimate vain pot that I am, I’m holding a poll as to which dress I should wear for the night.

I’ve done away with the conservative black and gone with a silky blue instead. Problem is, I found 2 very sweet blue dresses and just can’t decide on which I should don. Decisions, decisions… argghhhh… *faints prettily*

So which should I wear?

Dress A, with a bit of gathers at the front, and wispy, floaty sleeves…

blue dress 1

…Or Dress B, with a not-very-plunging-but-revealing-enough neckline?

blue dress 2

A silver necklace and earrings, with a pair of silver heels and handbag, and a light scarf to complete the look…

Jom partaaayyyyyy!!

I’ll have a blue blue Christmas without you
I’ll be so blue thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won’t mean a thing if you’re not here with me…
