sunny laundry thank you

It’s been 2 weeks since my birthday and I just have to do this before it becomes totally old news! To properly thank you all for keeping my postbox happy…

…T H A N K Y O U Angel, Bkworm, Chen, Cocka, Eve, Faris, Kat, L B, Me, Michael, PY, Sengkor, TUX, and Winn, for the cards, postcards and little presents that came along with them!

…S P E C I A L T H A N K S to my friends May Yee, Prissy, Carrie and Melinda for the 2-in-1 housewarming / birthday presents!

…T H A N K Y O U, and Y O U, and Y O U for all the wonderful blog posts, comments, SMS-es, Twitters and emails, you really made my day!

* * *

And now, on to some totally unrelated bits…

I love laundry day. Especially when it’s nice and sunny outside.

I just love the way my clothes smell after soaking in the sun. I actually sniff in the “freshly sunned” scent, and sometimes I gather all the laundry in my arms and give it a good hug! There’s such a comforting thing about it. Smells like home… *silly grin*

Do you do it? Do you hug and sniff? Or am I the only weird one who does that?

table for two, three, four?

I finally have a dining table! For the past few weeks I’ve been eating off one of those breakfast-in-bed trays by setting it up on the floor, or just holding my bowl up while on the sofa. After some shopping around and kinda fed up with dining on the floor, I bought myself a 5-piece dining set from Freedom Furniture.

I must admit though, whilst their furniture look a little more classy than Ikea’s, the assembly is not as friendly (some of the holes not drilled thorough enough), or as solid in material. Too bad I chose aesthetics over functionality this time around. Well, what’s more important is, I have a table to eat on! Yay!

And now for my second part of the post…

I was tagged both by velverse and Giddy Tiger on what my favourite food is in my state or country. Well, even though I’m far away from my KL home, nothing’s like eating old-fashioned roti bakar right here in my Sydney apartment! For those who aren’t familiar with the term, it’s actually butter and kaya (or coconut jam) on toast bread.

The authentic roti bakar is made by spreading a thick layer of butter and kaya on thick Hainanese-style bread, then toasting it in a small toaster oven for a few minutes till golden brown. Since I don’t have one of those handy ovens, I just pop a couple of white bread slices into the normal bread toaster, get it nice and crisp, spread as much butter and jam on it as I like (make sure it’s oozing!), and take a big, BIG bite… yummmm!

5 yumyum luplups part 2

A little more than one month later and I’m back with yumyum luplups part 2! If you’ve missed out on part 1 of the tag I owed L B, check it out here.

So, what have I got in store for you this time around?

It was just my luck when a couple of friends came a-visiting from KL. What a lovely excuse to go food-hunting! And since this is Sydney, I couldn’t just feature Chinese food, could I? Not when there are so many other yumyum luplup varieties out there.

Just to recap what the tag was all about:

The rules:
1. Add a direct link to your post below the name of the person who tagged you.
Include the state and country you’re in.

Nicole (Sydney, Australia)
velverse (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)
L B (San Giovanni in Marignano, Italy)
may (Sydney, Australia)

2. List out your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location.
3. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states)
[..and let them know they’ve been tagged]

#3: Löwenbräu Keller, The Rocks, Sydney
Corner of Playfair & Argyle Streets
The Rocks, Sydney 2000

If you’re a fan of German beer, then you would definitely have heard of this name. Not only do they have great beer, they also have a restaurant out here at The Rocks. It’s almost like Carlsberg having its own eatery! The beer here is excellent, and so are the sausages, pretzels and sauerkraut. The one thing you have to try is their signature pork knuckle dish. We didn’t order it this time around, but I’d definitely go there again soon to dig in!

#4: Sapore By the Fountain, Leichhardt
Shop 33, The Italian Forum
23 Norton Street, Leichhardt 2040

Leichhardt is the place to go for Italian food in Sydney. The one we went to, called Sapore, is inside the Italian Forum — a square with even more Italian restaurants — and is by a fountain, naturally! We shared a (grilled seafood platter, a penne sicilliana and a warm chicken and avocado salad among 5 of us, and it was quite finger lickin’ good! Of course, it’s nowhere as good as Osteria La Cantina dei Porto at Gabicce Mare where I had the best grilled seafood with L B and Stefano…

#5: Harry’s Cafe de Wheels, Woolloomooloo
Cowper Wharf Roadway
Woolloomooloo 2011

This is not quite a restaurant, but more of a stall that started off small and became a permanent feature on wheels along the road. This place serves the meanest, HOTTEST chili dog, ever!! It’s like A&W’s coney dog, except a hundred — nay, a thousand — times much better. It’s not the hotdog that’s special, nor the mince, nor did it look extraordinary (that’s why no photo here). It’s the chili that takes your breath away at first bite. Yum!! Forget about the pies and other varieties they offer, just go straight for the chili dog.

* * *

And now, it gives me great pleasure to finally be able to tag the following people, to continue on this food journey:

ehon - Adelaide, Australia
cp1 - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
consuela - Honolulu, Hawaii
ubisetela - Christchurch, New Zealand
samm - Ipoh, Malaysia

Enjoy!

a happy liuliu to you, winn

Once upon a time, there was a girl who loved to liuliu so much that she became our beloved Queen of Liu. So today in her honour as well as being a special Flyday Anniversary, I shall attempt to write a post in her beloved mother liuliu tongue. It goes a little like this:

Winnliuliu!!

Liuliu liu liu liuliu, liu? Liu liu liu, liu liu liu liuliu liuliuliuliu liuliu liu liu! Liu liu liu?

Liu liuliu liu liuliu liuliu liuliu, liu liu liu liu liu liuliuliu Liuliu, liu liu liu liu liu, liuliuliuliu liuliuliu liu liuliuliu liu! Liuuuuuu, liu liu liu liu liu Liuliu Liu Liu liuliu, liu liu liu liu liuliu liu, liu? Liu!

Liu & Liuliu, liu Liu Liuliu!

For those who don’t understand the liuliu language, here it is translated:

Winnliuliu!!

Today is your birthday, yes? And for that, I have a special tiramisu cupcake for you! Lke or not?

Here’s wishing you many happy returns, may you have lots of wonderful Flydays, lots and lots of fun, everlasting happiness and abundant wealth! Waaa, sounds a bit like a Chinese New Year greeting, but it works for birthdays too, hor? Hor!

Happy Birthday, my dear!

Hugs & Kisses, and Best Wishes!
