mega movie marathon

Movie Binge!! Movie Binge!!

I can’t believe how many movies I watched this month of October. I think it’s more than the past 9 months put together, even! I don’t know what made me go on this movie marathon of sorts. Maybe it’s sheer boredom. Maybe it’s having one less thing to procrastinate about. Whatever it was, I had my share of good and bad flicks.

movies

Let’s see, what did I feast my eyes upon on the big screen? Big here means really big, i.e. at the cinema. There was The Devil Wears Prada (ok, this was in end September but I think it sparked off the movie binge), which was a fun watch with all those big fashion names (and to-die-for shoes!). Then it was World Trade Center, which was a bit too… ummm, I don’t know how to put it, but it didn’t impress me as much as I thought it would. Just a week ago, Jackie Chan wowed us once again with his stunts in Rob-B-Hood, though a very predictable ending. Ho-hum.

movies

Watching downloaded movies was a little more fun and entertaining. I didn’t have a 23″ Apple Cinema HD Display, so I had to settle watching these on my faithful 13.3″ MacBook. Losers can’t be choosers, eh? Good enough la!

On Deepavali — to get into the flying muruku-mood — I watched Kuch Kuch Hota Hai! Now, that’s a truly entertaining Bollywood film which got me shaking my bon-bon along with its singing and dancing. Made me cry too… I love a good love story! Elizabethtown was my next favourite. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you liked Garden State, then you’d appreciate this one. Another warm and fuzzy feeling ending. Kirsten Dunst was the real star of the show compared to Orlando Bloom, IMHO. Much better than Renée Zellweger in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, which kinda fell flat with too much… I dunno, too much Bridget!

movies

I’m not a total Download Queen as some might claim, I do watch regular DVDs, courtesy of Uncle Ho! And though I have a DVD player out in the hall, watching it on Mackie seemed more enjoyable, snuggling up in bed under the duvet with my pillows.

The Banquet was quite melodramatic, with Ziyi Zhang trying too hard in her role as the Empress. I even thought Zhou Xun acted better than her. I wasn’t too crazy about watching Over the Hedge, but after rave reviews from fantasyflier, I borrowed the DVD from ChristinE and hey, it wasn’t too bad after all! If you enjoy watching foreign films, check out A Very Long Engagement with Audrey Tautou — the same actress who charmed us in Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, or Amélie for short.

movies

I had some lousy experiences too:

The version I downloaded for A Lot Like Love had some foreign voice-over while the movie was still playing in English!! Such distraction, I couldn’t concentrate. I had to trash that one, what a waste. Alfie was also a bad download in terms of sound and video quality. Just didn’t quite cut my list either, so stopped watching after 10 minutes.

Team America was truly something else. Looking at the DVD cover, you’d think that it’s a kid’s flick, but oh nooooo… your eyes would pop out as mine did!! Profanities, sex scenes, orgies, poking fun at America. And the worst thing was, it was ‘acted’ by puppets!! Puppets having sex!! I think Cocka would’ve enjoyed this movie, really! *ROTFL until pengsan*

My rating for the movies watched (out of 5 stars):

The Devil Wears Prada
World Trade Center
Rob-B-Hood
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Elizabethtown

Still have lots more to go! Ah, must pace myself, otherwise I’d just get totally bored with watching movies after such a binge.

And next on the list…

merry beary teddy love

teddyYou like my Teddy?

This Teddy, on the left. Not my other teddy! *piak!* (though I’m sure some of you might prefer that…)

Another doodle on a Friday afternoon. Still not as great as I’d like it to be, but it’s quite a feat for yet another 3 hours of clicking and colouring in Illustrator©. Yes carcar, I owe you a snoozy portrait! Coming up this weekend. I’ll be able to test out my new Wacom graphire4 tablet then!

What will you be up to, my dearies?

Happy days to you, enjoy the weekend!!

* * *

p.s. I’m actually at a loss on what to say. I had something written earlier when my mood wasn’t all that good, articulating some thoughts that were swimming in my mind. But because it was yet another downer post, I did away with it, and saved it for a really stormy, rainy day. Who wants to keep reading sad or troubled posts anyway? It’s the weekend, after all!

Sometimes, we just can’t keep wallowing in our misery if it isn’t getting us anywhere. Especially when the subject we are miserable about isn’t going to appreciate or care about how awful we feel because of it. So why feel miserable at all, yea?

Someday, it’ll all go away.
When I get too used to it…

…and it just becomes bland.

Someday.

these nine are all mine

This is like deja vu, having to write 9 weird things about myself. Just 9 months ago (what a coincidence, the number 9!) I did a meme on 5 weird habits. Eating durian with a spoon on a plate is still my ultimate weird habit! How many more could I have?

Ok Chen, I shall humour you.

nine

(Another) 9 not-so-weird things about Little Miss May©…

1. I wear or use some of my favourite items infrequently so they’ll last longer.

2. I make sure that there are three dots when I use an ellipsis. No more, no less.

3. I enjoy attention almost as much as I dislike it.

4. I obsess about decorating my own home in my mind, though it doesn’t exist yet.

5. I love simplicity but somehow my room is in perpetual mess and overflow.

6. I sit in front of the computer for an unhealthy amount of time, for no reason at all.

7. I can sink into a deep melancholia listening to songs that articulate my feelings.

8. I think an artist’s hands are sexy because of the beautiful things they create.

9. I have one too many reveries, it’s almost a bittersweet preoccupation.

ravishing rendang raya

The beauty about being in an multiracial (albeit extended) family is that we get to celebrate all sorts of festivities. We’re never short of an excuse to meet up, drink, eat and be merry, and it’s almost at every Chinese New Year, Hari Raya and Christmas that we have our tri-annual gatherings. Only one that’s missing is Deepavali. Still, 3 out of 4 ain’t bad, yes?

raya

Every Hari Raya, my aunt (Dad’s sister) would hold an open house for family and friends to dig in to the lemang, rendang daging, curry chicken and lontong, among other delicious home-cooked dishes. My favourite has got to be the very spicy sambal tumis, eaten together with ketupat and lontong (though I’d much prefer the lemang, made from glutinous rice of sorts).

The desserts table is stacked with the usual cakes a-plenty. The chocolate and durian cakes were the “regulars”. Much as I love the chocolate one, I couldn’t help but give it a miss and go for the chocolate mousse cake instead. Absolute heaven, aitelyu!

joannaMy “nephews” — four very energetic rascals sons of two of my cousins — were missing at the scene, making it slightly quieter than expected. Oh, but I finally got to meet my “niece”, Joanna! Another cousin of mine had given birth to this beautiful baby girl 8 months ago, and I think this is the first time I set my eyes on her. Cute, yes? Don’t let her solemn look fool you. She’s quite a bubbly squealer! Loves giving hi-fives, too. And somehow had an attraction towards carpets… hmmm…

It’ll be a couple of months before I see my relatives again, for Christmas. In the meantime…

Flying lemangs and ketupats for you?

strip-searching finds

Have you ever wondered what people searched for in your blog? Or how they got to your site in the first place?

Of course, there are those links here and there on other people’s blogs, sites and what-nots. Call me anal or paranoid, but I like to check my site statistics to see who my visitors are. Well, not so much who they are since names are definitely not attached to it, but at least which country they hail from, and how they came around.

search

Lately I’ve had some visitors dropping by via search engines like Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Quite a few are referred to by image searches of the cakes, cookies and pies I’d baked — snickerdoodles, apple pies, brownies — and some images of eateries I’ve been to. More strangely and interestingly though, are the other kind of searches that came from other countries.

Having one of my sek pau mou yeh chou moments, I scoured through my statistics and had a good amusing laugh at some of the keywords that somehow pushed my site into the search results page.

Here are some of my favourites:

From Asia:
Australia: girls full round food stuffed tummies
Hong Kong: lingham’s sos chili
India: joys and woes of travelling • i may miss u letters
Philippines: lovenotes jo d’ mango
Singapore: tribeca singapore, humsup lou

From Europe:
Denmark: one leg lady
Finland: zara pyjama
Italy: lb slash [psst… L B, I think someone was looking for you!!]
The Netherlands: see thru nighties • k800 applications vibrator
Sweden: Timbuktu-why wanna
Turkey: eating in ipoh • chupper
UK: pyjamas sexy silk photos • fishtail pick up arse • how to cook porgies

From North & South America:
Brazil: Penis Enlargement Pills
Canada: miss may 2006 • si-lai definition • chrismas computer countdown
United States: davidoff cologne hasselhoff • why does baking soda stop a toothache • peekaboowear • how to differentiate natural jade from fake jade • sexret friends • king crown • victoria secret see-through blouses • tanslee
Uruguay: i wish the earth would swallow me up funny

From our homeland of Malaysia, the keyword searches that come pointing paths to my blogstep are sometimes equally weird and funny!! The food and recipe related keyword searches, I’m not surprised as I do have a lot of food-related entries. The other amusing ones are like:

Food related:
food used for abortion • how come my cookies doesn’t taste like famous amos

X-rated related:
free nude picture • red light area in ipoh • sexy lingerie • chinese nude girls • nude girls malaysia • orgy in kl

Everything else related:
alleycats • se k800 price • 1u circus • monsoon id • bantal busuk • renoma panty • where to find good orthodontist • hotel ipoh city • happy poppy • tai kam che • tampon pad

…And the list goes on!

I’m sure all those comments about lingerie, nude this and that, pyjamas and porgies had much to do with churning up these search results. Too bad they’ll end up disappointed somewhat, since there really isn’t much related to what they’re searching for. Unless, of course, I actually start doing blog topics about those, LOL!

Do you know who is visiting your site today? *grin*
